Encaustics Workshop: Exquisite Corpse Book

Last Encaustics Workshop: Exquisite Corpse Book

Encaustics Workshop: Exquisite Corpse Book

We wanted to let everyone know that instructor Sherrie Posternak will be leaving us this May. Sadly, this will be her last encaustics workshop in the Tucson area. We learned that she was moving out of state a while ago but wanted to publicly thank her for giving her heart to the Art Verve over these past few years, plus her time and energy. We wish her all the best as she transitions into the next adventure and chapter of her life!

Explore the fascinating unbounded rich medium of encaustic! Create luminous encaustic bound collages with an expert guide. We will each make a book based on Picture Consequences, the visual version of the Surrealist parlor game Exquisite Corpse (wherein a collection of words is collectively assembled). As a child did you have a book in which the pages were cut into thirds, the top third of the pages showing the head of a person or animal, the middle third the torso, and the bottom third the legs? We will compose our books with a least 8 individual drawings that we produce in class. We can use all our own images in the book or trade some with classmates. Encaustic wax medium will be the binding material for the drawings on Sumi paper adhered to “Encaustiflex.” Our covers will be made of cotton quilt batting saturated with wax medium. We will use eyelets and binder rings to put it all together.

Sherrie Posternak has had solo and group shows in the encaustic medium internationally in both the U.S. and Mexico since 2007. Her thoughts have appeared in various magazine articles or blog interviews and she's also juried various prestigious gallery exhibits.

Images of Sherrie's work are in the gallery section of the E-book "Contemporary Paper and Encaustic" by Catherine Nash, and Volume I of Linda Robertson's revised E-book "Embracing Encaustic."
