Lisa Larrabee is most recognized for her unique figurative paintings that stylistically blur the boundaries between the figure and their environment. Her paintings visually convey the intangible connection between people, nature and the subconscious. Her unique process begins with an expressive and textured surface. Lisa uses oil paint, cold wax medium and mixed media with improvised tools, rollers and pallet knives before refining her image with traditional oil painting methods.

Lisa has been teaching art courses at the college level since 2002, ranging from community classes for personal development to studio classes for students earning their BFA or MFA degrees. She has primarily taught painting and drawing classes as well as design and composition.

After graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Art in illustration, Lisa earned her Master of Education from Northern Arizona University. Working as a fine artist and educator is an excellent combination. She is able to work actively in her studio and share what she learns in the process with her students.

Lisa was represented by galleries in Tucson and Tubac for many years, but she recently decided to directly market her artwork online. Her paintings and portrait commissions are in private collections across the country, and she has participated in a variety of national and international juried exhibitions.

"Teaching makes me a better artist, and developing my work as an artist makes me a better teacher. I absolutely love that I have the opportunity to do both."
