The following is a list of materials:
We will use during class & some supplies are recommended to bring:
Those noted with ** are items you need to bring. Regarding supplies not noted with ** - bring what you have and Art Verve Academy will have supplies for you to use. The idea is you don’t have to go out and buy a bunch of supplies!
** Variety of materials to rust dye and make monotype prints on. The thinner the paper, the better. Cardstock thickness and glossy pages don’t work as well for these techniques. Bring loads of items to print on! (Cut / tear up the papers to manageable sizes before class – no bigger than your gel plate is best.)
- Deli paper. (I have some for you to use as well).
- Tissue paper
- Japanese / washi paper
- Pages from an old book
- Sheets of music
- Maps
- Gift tags
- Newsprint or newspapers
- Dryer Sheets
- Muslin Fabric
- Cheesecloth
- Tea bags / Coffee Filters
- ** Gel Plate – 8x10. Example: https://www.amazon.com/PRINTING-Gelli-Arts-amazing-pictures/dp/B00CLALEJI/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1541798109&sr=8-6&keywords=gel+plate)
- ** Spray Bottle filled with ½ distilled white vinegar and ½ water.
- ** Brayer – if you only bring one, bring a 3”. Other sizes are optional
- ** Ziploc Bags – 1 to 2.5 gallon size. You will rust dye your papers in the bags.
- Glue Gun – bring one if you have one.
- Optional “Technique” Journal – I have an inexpensive 8/12 x 11 mixed media journal that I have been using to try out a technique or practice on. If you have one, bring it!
- Flat Rusty Objects to use for rust dyeing. They need to be mostly flat so the paper we will dye will make good contact with the rusty object. If you are on a walk and find a rusty tin can lid, or a horseshoe, or ??, collect it and bring it to use.
- Old cookie sheet. We will rust on cookie sheets, so if you have one ready for the trash, bring it!
- Spray Inks
- Anything for creating texture – bubble wrap, hairbrush, toothbrush, comb
- Leaves with lots of texture, stems (though go for flatter/ small stems), flower petals and other fairly flat botanicals
- Permanent Black Ink Pen
- Stamps and stencils you want to use that you have in your supplies.
- Acrylic paints of any kind or color you have in your supplies. Art Verve has a nice set of acrylic paints we will use, so don’t buy any of if you don’t any.
- Water Mixable Oil paints – black and sepia tone are best.
- Stencils you have on hand
- Apron – we will get messy!
