Session 1

Getting Started
  • Student Introductions
  • What is InkTober?
  • Why Pen & Ink?

Tools & Materials
  • Inexpenisve pens for practice
  • Surfaces (weight, texture, archival)

Mark-making Techniques (In Class Exercise)
  • Hatching, Cross Hatching, or Cross Contour Hatching
  • Stippling, Dots, or Scribbles

Simplifying Values
  • Copy the Masters

Homework
  • Finish or complete any other class exercises
  • Work on each daily topic, stay small so you are not overwhelmed
  • Start a Pen & Ink Journal - It can be as simple or complex as you desire. Create color swatches of each tube or color of paint and label it (use this as a reference or to find out what colors are missing)
  • Purchase supplies if you need to
  • Start thinking about value everyday, how could you simplify it?


Session 2

Review Past Homework or In Class Work

Fountain, Dip or Glass Pens
  • Nibs
  • How to fill your pen, easily
  • Using colored inks

Inks
  • Waterproof vesus Water Resitant
  • Arcyrlic versus Fountain Pen
  • Colored Inks

Controling the Instrument
  • Shading (Hatching or Cross Hatching with a 5 scale)
  • Outline or Contour (Calligraphic Line or Calligraphy)
  • Cross Contour
  • Block In or Local Value
